Welcome of the city of Banks and the start of the Banks-Vernonia State Trail, Oregon's first ever rail-to-rail project.
The Banks-Vernonia State Trail started as a railway, and has been handed back over to nature. The trail allows walkers, joggers, cyclists and horseback riders the chance to view Oregon history while delighting in the forest's renewed splendor. Amenities and attractions along the route include trailhead parking areas, trestle/bridge crossings and day use areas. The trail may be accessed at any of six points including trailheads and Manning, Buxton, Tophill and Beaver Creek.
Nestled between the Cascade Mountains and the Oregon Coast Range lies the City of Banks. Surrounded by natural beauty, Banks strives to be an environmentally-sensitive city respectful of the nearby farms and forest. Goods and services for cyclists can be found right here in town, including restaurants, cafes, convenience stores and a bike shop.
